Whiskey and Peanuts Print E-mail
Saturday, 20 October 2007

Hi! Welcome back to my website, which is receiving its first update in about six months. I have basically taken the year off from updating the site, plus I've also let the old domain name (doubleswitch.com) expire but now I have a brand spanking new one (baseballsmorgasbord.ca), so I may as well write something.

As I type, it is the top of the first of Game Five of the NLCS, Schilling vs. Carmona. Travis Hafner JUST struck out. Both teams are vying to see who gets to face the Rockies juggarnaut in the World Series; at some point, the Rockies amazing run will need to be dissected to see what went right and whether they can repeat that success - but tonight there is a baseball game on and I have some salted peanuts and some whiskey that need to be consumed.

Man, Fausto Carmona really gets into his pitches; that trailing leg is way up in the air.

As a whole, the playoffs have been... just OK. The bug game was cool. But I've been seeing much less of this postseason than in past years; MLB's crazy-ass scheduling has finally caught up to me. In the past 12 months, I have

- turned 32 years old, and

- started waking up at 5:30am every day, regardless of what time I go to sleep. Not on purpose; just something that my brain has decided it wants to do

So I managed to stay up to the very end of the Rockies-Padres game, but that's the only one I have seen to completion. With these 8:30 start times and five-hour ballgames... I have officially become a six-innings max playoff viewer.

And Manny Ramirez strikes out with the bases loaded, to add to his list of trangessions against the human race this October. A lot of people seem to be really upset with Manny's behaviour this fall, complaining about his showboating and lackadaisical attitude. And I've tried to see it their way... but then I just remind myself that I need to get a life. I mean, really.

MANNY MAYHEM

And JD Drew hits the first ever postseason grand slam by a mummified ballplayer. Enjoy the rest of the playoffs!
