Baseball players are disgusting Print E-mail

We all know this, of course; men, in general, are disgusting, but they seem to get even worse when they are surrounded by other men i.e. in a locker room.

But sometimes it's easy to be lulled by their clean-cut Joe Mauerness. Two incidents from the weekend, then, to remind us:

  1. While watching the Blue Jays get swept by the Angels this weekend, Anaheim closer Fernando Rodney came out to get the save on Saturday. The camera did a close-up while he got himself set on the mound; Rodney then squeezed one of his nostrils, and blew something large out of the other one. RSN quickly cut away to another camera, but the damage was done.

That's one time I was glad I was not watching in HD (though I'm morbidly curious about what the effect would look like in 3D).
  2. This blog post recounts the tale of a Bay Area News Group photographer who was hit in the head by Pablo Sandoval's cup. Apparently, the Panda was having discomfort while running, and decided to relieve himself of his cup by just tossing it.

I've long been a proponent of calling an automatic out on any batter whose bat slips from his hands and flies into the stands. I'm wondering if a similar rule is needed for flying cups.
